Why Dianne would GUILT you into donating...TURKEY HATS AND MEALS!!!

It will be 10 years this December 6, my mom, Dianne Bulleri, unexpectedly passed away at the age of 60.  The last thing we did together was the Wheeler Mission Drumstick Dash on Thanksgiving.

It was so fitting that is the last living memory I have of my mom is at the Drumstick Dash.  My mom LOVED a theme!  There was never a space NOT decorated for an upcoming holiday.  My mom always had her door open and her table set for whoever needed a place or a meal.  She LOVED to entertain, to tell you the same story over and over again, and a tradition that involved a symbol of her love, feeding people. When she passed I inherited 3 sets of 24 full-service CHRISTMAS DISHES!!!  Because you never know who is going to stop by and if they do they should only be served on their own salad plate, bread plate, appetizer plate, dinner plate, dessert plate, and have a cup of coffee served in a matching cup with a saucer.  If there were no leftovers then she did not make enough.  If you knew her at some point she made you eat even if you were not hungry.

I think this is why she LOVED coming down from Chicago each year to donate to and participate in the Drumstick Dash with me, Dave (husband), Paolo & Giabella (her beloved grandchildren), friends, and my students (especially Avery and Nick).  She went to ANY AND EVERY extreme to ensure that EVERYONE had a new turkey hat each year.  Upon arrival each Thanksgiving morning she always found Turkey Tom and the pyramid of bananas to take a picture with.  It was something she really looked forward to.

The Wheeler Mission ensures that there is a hot meal and place to stay for the residents of Indianapolis, much like my mom did for complete strangers who became friends/family when she was alive.  Each year I raise money in her memory and spirit.  The memory of my mom and all of her wonderfully annoying and heartwarming quirks.  And the spirit of  EVERYONE deserves a meal and a place to stay.

Please help me keep her memory alive by donating to such a wonderfully generous organization.  Every $2.25 you donate provides shelter, food, clothing, and employment services for a member of the Indianapolis community.  It also provides me with healing in knowing that my mom is still feeding complete strangers/friends/family and encouraging them and me to be the best we can be.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING and may you always have a turkey hat on your head while you are moving your feet so others can eat!

Love, Kelly
